One Direction Debuts at No. 1

(L-R) Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne and Harry Styles of the band One Direction perform on NBC’s “Today” show at Rockefeller Plaza on March 12, 2012 in New York City.

As predicted, the baby-faced British boy band known as One Direction has landed the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200, selling 176,000 copies of Up All Night in its first week out. And not only are they selling loads of albums and wooing teen girls with their Bieber bangs, but they’re making history: 1D (as they are known on the fan boards — just go with it) are the first British pop group to ever debut at the top Billboard spot. As in, not even the Spice Girls managed that. A British band that is bigger than the Spice Girls?! It is almost too much to take in.
